Ash Wednesday

Ashes will be distributed at both Masses.
What better way to begin Lent than at Mass?

Ash Wednesday is a day of fasting and abstinence.
🔺Fasting means eating one full meal as well as two smaller meals that together do not equal a full meal.

🔺Abstinence means refraining from eating meat.

Lent is a journey — and we need the grace of God’s Word and the Eucharist to begin it well. Ashes remind us that we are dust and to dust we shall return, so we ought to repent and believe in the gospel.
Not a Holy Day of Obligation…
A Holy Day of Invitation. 💜

Ash Wednesday: Leave the ashes on or wash them off?

“There is no minimum time” established to wear the ashes on the forehead or head, but they can serve as a witness. The ashes “do a lot to serve as a witness that you are a Christian and are living Lent.”

“You don’t have to be afraid to bear witness wherever you are. “ Even non-Catholics who want to can receive them.
